Endorsements

Three members of the City Planning Commission have been kind enough to write a few paragraphs about why they endorse me for Elk Ridge City Council.

Tribute to Heroes

Check out this 7 minute tribute to real heroes. As I think about our local, state, and national government, and our right to vote, it makes me appreciate even more the efforts and sacrifices made by the real heroes of America–past and present.

Thanks for Your Support!

I sincerely appreciate the widespread support from all of you.

The most enjoyable part of the last 2 months for me was meeting so many of you in person and discussing with you some of the issues Elk Ridge is facing. I was impressed with your sincere desire to help make Elk Ridge a better place.

Congratulations to Derrek Johnson and Julie Haskell. I’m looking forward to working with both of you on the city council. Thank you Kevin Hansbrow, Alvin Harward, and Dennis Jacobsen for your hard work and for caring about the city like you do.

A Note about “The Elk Ridge Standard”

The first edition of The Elk Ridge Standard was just released. Unfortunately, it misrepresented me in several ways:

  1. I was the first candidate to respond about writing a letter for The Elk Ridge Standard. I responded a full week before Alvin Harward, but Alvin’s letter was published. I don’t believe this was intentional, but was a miscommunication among the staff for The Elk Ridge Standard.

  2. I definitely have ideas on how to deal with growth and communication (as you can see on this website, and as people know who went to the Meet the Candidates night). I even have ideas about the water situation, but would still like to learn more.

  3. I have only lived in Elk Ridge for 1.5 years. I lived in Salem for the 10 years prior to that. In all, I have lived in Elk Ridge, or within 3 miles of Elk Ridge, for nearly 12 years.

I really like the idea of an Elk Ridge newspaper and support John in his efforts to have a regular publication.

Issues that Concern Me

Communication

I feel there could be better communication between the city government and the citizens of Elk Ridge. The city does enough to comply with state law, but there is more that could be done to communicate with our residents.

Water Bills

I believe our water bills are too high. I think that more can be done to bring them to a reasonable level. There are a variety of questions that I have about what happens with the money from our water bills, and how new infrastructure is being funded. It may require some creativity, but I think that a better solution can be found.

Growth

I believe that the city is growing too fast. The Mayor reminds us that landowners have a right to develop their land. I agree and respect their rights to develop their properties, but I also think that there are things that can be done to better manage growth.

Respect for Residents

I believe it is important to understand and respect the opinions of the residents of Elk Ridge. On several occasions, I have seen the opinions of our citizens disregarded. If elected, I intend to listen to and represent the residents of Elk Ridge.
